The Psoas Muscle And It's Relationship With Your Soul

The Psoas Muscle And It's Relationship With Your Soul

By   |
Psoas Pain
For the past few weeks I have been suffering from psoas muscle pain. The psoas is the muscle that holds us upright, taking us from all fours to standing. It attaches at the spine and comes down through the pelvis and attaches to the inner thigh bone. So it's a very core muscle, attaching our spine to our legs.
The psoas is much more than your ordinary muscle, it is a messenger for your central nervous system, and it's where your fear response (fight/flight/freeze) stems from, and trauma is stored in your tissues.
Spirituality
In some spiritual philosophies it is seen as the residing place of your gut intuition, and is the guardian of the Soul.
Liz Koch has spent her life exploring and teaching about the psoas muscle and she says it's much more than a core stabalising muscle, it's an organ of perception and "literally embodies our deepest urge for survival, and more profoundly, our elemental desire to flourish."
Trauma
In our modern, fast paced lifestyle, we are running on adrenaline, which triggers and tightens the psoas making it ever ready to spring into fight or flight. This tension is the cause of a lot of back pain, reproductive issues, leg issues and digestive problems.
I have also found because this muscle flanks your diaphragm, when tense, it also affects your breathing which contributes to anxiety.
I have been doing some deep trauma healing and it's no wonder that my psoas was strained, trauma is stored in this muscle, and needs to be released. Facing questions and fears about why we are on the planet and what is our purpose, all reside in our psoas, which are Soul questions.
Releasing and Restoring
Relaxing and releasing the tension in the psoas helps grounds us and makes available the energies of the Universe that revitalises our bodies. Our core issues about who we are, our value system, our self esteem, how we feel about ourself, are anchored in this area.
This is the root chakra, sacral chakra area, which is the area of our body that deals with these Earthly energies.
The area below the navel is known as "Hara". This area is where we aim for "right centre of gravity", where heaven meets earth, and the psoas's state of health is a contributor to how we harmonise these energies.
One way to gently release the psoas is to do something called Constructive Rest. This video is one way of doing it that I found really relaxing. It enabled me to deeply let go. I also find myself consciously relaxing this muscle during the day because I notice how much I hold on in this area.
I also shift my focus now when I want to calm myself down, rather than slow my breathing down, I just focus on my psoas in my groin/thigh area, and relax it, and it naturally relaxes my breathing. It's a very grounding feeling.
What's your relationship with your psoas?

How to Manifest Yourself Out of a Food Fight

How to Manifest Yourself Out of a Food Fight

By   |
Today, I want to share with you what I have learned after having spent more than 15 years with all sorts of obsessions and fears around food. It is my biggest wish that you can reflect upon these words and embrace the freedom that you truly deserve. Let me explain...
In the past, in order to get rid of my food fight, I tried "fixing" myself. I was pushing against what I perceived to be "dysfunctional" within me and my behavior. And to my surprise, the more I tried to change my behaviors and obsessions, the worse they got.
After getting nowhere with this, I finally let go the self-fight. Instead, I decided to focused on other areas in my life that I'd never seen before (ie. spirituality, consciousness and inner awareness). And after some months of deep self-exploration and discovery, I understood that many people who try to manifest better in their lives make the error of energizing desires that are full of neediness and hidden agendas, which simply accelerates the manifestation of more dysfunction in their lives.
You can only manifest change of present conditions and circumstances when you have accepted and made peace with them. Only when you can love your experiences can you leave them behind, and not a moment sooner. If you are running away from present dysfunction in your attempt to create better, you have not made peace with life and so will simply create 'different' dysfunction rather than better.
In this case, I had to make peace with my fears and obsessions around food instead of trying to fix them or running away from them. In other words, acceptance was my ticket to transcendence.
Manifesting change in life requires that YOU change in consciousness; nothing will change until you do. And delaying change until the desired outcome comes to pass is fantasy, as the outcome emerges from you. Your consciousness is the creator and cause of what you see in your outer life.
When you are needy of your desires (which means that you see yourself as lacking), you seek wholeness or fulfillment outside of you and 'pull' on the world rather than radiate outwardly from within...
And the interesting thing is that when you are radiating all-sufficiency from within and pour that out lavishly into the world, you no longer want 'things' from the world as you once did. You no longer see outer life as separate from your consciousness, and only seek to go deeper within.
The biggest "secret" is that you have command over the universe when you operate from a deeper level of being that is rooted in Love. And when you cannot genuinely feel Love, then you can start with unconditional acceptance. Only consciousness that operates at a 'higher' level can have command at this lower level...
Understand that all lack consciousness points to a sense of not being in wholeness, and the resolution is not to search for things external to you (as I did with food) but rather to uncover the fulfillment from within. In the truth of your being, you are whole, and lack simply indicates that you have yet to uncover the infinite resources that lie dormant within your being. Seeking ever greater wholeness within is what life is all about.
So I hope that you realize that life if not about pushing against yourself or wishing that you were something different. But by embracing what you are unconditionally you can then start uncovering the diamonds of wealth, beauty and infinite Love that reside within you.
How can you apply this to your current struggles? How can you perceive yourself anew in this moment? How can you accept all that you are? I'd love to hear from you, so leave your comments below.
In gratitude and faith,
Monica

Looking Good Therapy

Looking Good Therapy

By   |
A magical attraction is a reflection of the appearance of a person. However, being good is quite different from looking good. A person could be good without even looking it; and at the same time, a person could be bad but look the most good. Albeit, looking good compliments being good.
Attributes of Looking Good
1. Looking Smart
2. Smelling Good
1. Looking Smart: Smartness is the kind of appearance that makes you look acceptable in a conversation and in a gathering. Smartness hugely connects to your dressing mode. Being smart is further divided into two categories, which are: Corporate Smart and Casual Smart.
a. Corporate Smart: Otherwise termed official smartness is the kind of dressing that befits a corporate worker, which include but not limited to suits, packet shirts (long sleeve) and cover shoes. A person could put on suit, yet not looking smart; because the suit is either bigger than the person or smaller than the person but the person chose to wear it anyway. At the same time, there are times when a particular pair of trousers used would not complement a blazer used by a person thereby making the person appear odd. In order to correct this, try to wear a suit that is befitting in terms of size, an acceptable suit in a corporate gathering must be cute and smart on the person wearing it and not the other way round, making it look like the dress was meant to shield the wearer from cold.
And on the other hand, there should be a good sense of colour combination and balancing by the person who wants to wear a blazer to a corporate function. In order to appear acceptable in such places, a pair of black trousers works greatly with other colours except in few occasions. Also, tucking in of slightly large shirts covers the secret of such dressing most especially for official purposes. Try and see.
b. Casual Smart: Otherwise termed as un-official dress is a free form of dressing that is acceptable almost everywhere as long as it is not for the sake of performing any official function. As long as you are not looking for corporate favour, you do not necessarily need to kill yourself suiting up. You can simply look smart on casuals, most especially on fitted clothing (that is for slim people). However, fat people also have their kinds of cloth that will give a smart look.
The most important aspect of casual dressing lies in the colour combination because this is the only thing that gives you that attractive look and smartness you so desire and at the same time, you should always remember that birds of a feather flocks together when making choice of clothing for casual wears. Your trousers must definitely compliment your tops, otherwise, you will be going off line.
2. Smelling Good: This, aside looking good is a critical function in the looking good therapy. Your smell goes a very long way in determining if you will be accepted in a gathering and how long you will remain in such gathering. Could you just imagine how it will be like to have a foul smell in an interview? I want to authoritatively bring to your conscious that no matter how good you look; your foul smell will surely get you off the hook. I strongly doubt if you will be able to finish the interview before being walked out - due to foul odour. Naturally, everybody do have body odour at a particular point in time and this gives unpleasant smell thereby making the person look as someone who lacks good body hygiene.
There are various causes of body odour at each specific time, for example, a person who is under medication (especially anti-biotics) will definitely have the smell of medicine on the body and some liquids that are being passed out during that period; but the generally attributed cause for body odour is sweating; and the odour is not actually caused by the sweat but by some bacteria that breaks down the sweat particles into acids which in turn emits the unpleasant smells.
Where is affected?
The most important part of the body associated with body odour is the armpit, but the armpit is not the only part of the body that emits body odour. Study also shows that the feet also gives body odour, even the hair on the head if covered under some degree of heat for long also contributes, also the genitals (private part) do give foul smell as well. So, be on the look out for these parts of the body when fighting body odour in order to smell good.
Eradicating Body Odour
Can body odour really be eradicated? How easy and cheap is it to eradicate body odour?
Oh, yes! Body odour can be eradicated. Only that it can not be eliminated totally as long as the human race is in existence because it occurs in different stages of life and we are not all of the same age. But as for an individual, you can do away with body odour at any point in time.
Eradication body odour is as cheap as bathing regularly with soap and water, taking special care of the areas of the body associated with emitting body odour as indicated earlier. Thorough scrubbing of crucial parts of the body help keeps body odour away for long. Take it this way, before taking your bath, wet your soap and apply to the armpit, the private parts, allow to stay for some few minutes, then take your bath proper; but before applying sponge on those parts, first scrub thoroughly with your bare hands.
Natural Eradication of Body odour
You may not necessarily need to go so expensive before getting rid of that offensive odour. All you need to do is get a lime orange, cut into two and apply the juice on the armpit, and the private part few minutes before going for bath. And after taking your bath, you can as well apply the juice again. One good thing about this is that, it kills the bacteria that break down sweat particles thus eliminating body odour. You can then apply perfume if you so desire, though this is not very much necessary because even without it, there wont be any more body odour, only that it will give a more pleasant smell.
Can you now see that it takes no stress to get off body odour? You can smell naturally good in addition to your good looks thereby making your acceptability last longer in any gathering, official or un-official. Looking good is very essential to our day-by-day living and in whatever feat we are to achieve in life.

Connect With Mind Body and Spirit

Connect With Mind Body and Spirit

By   |
Your authentic self
I wish to present you with an uncommon view of reality.
For the next five minutes, the time it takes you to read and integrate this information, I intend to put forward an alternative view of life which you may not have previously considered. Indulge me as I outline a case for the benefits of merging mind, body and spirit.
I have written considerably about the mind, body and spirit association in recent times. I uphold that reconciling with these elements is vital for living an authentic life.
When I talk about authentic, I am referring to living in harmony with your true nature. When you are aligned with your essential being, you transcend imposed limitations. Life resides through moments of inspiration, rather than perspiration.
Life has meaning and purpose at this level of being. As you connect with mind, body and spirit, you experience: success, happiness, joy and the fullness of life. You cease to identify with fear and lower emotional states, which place immense resources on your mental, physical and emotional wellbeing - in essence, you rise above these limitations.
Your thoughts and emotions become an extension of your deepest self. You develop a deep-rooted connection to your spiritual self which is aligned with your life's purpose.
To awaken to your authentic self is to allow universal intelligence to direct your personal evolution. Throughout your childhood and adult life you may have created a fictitious tale in your mind, based on who you thought you were.
You may have painted a distorted image upon the canvas of your life by reinforcing the following beliefs: "I am not good enough", "I am not talented enough" and "I am not worthy of receiving love." It is essential that you cease to identify with these beliefs, since this is not who you really are.
Slow and steady
To live in harmony with Nature's plan requires that you join with mind, body and spirit. If you merely identify with your body for example, as many people do, your happiness is subject to your material form. Then what happens to your self-image as your body ages, or you become ill? It is for this reason that many people mistakenly identify with their illness or their aging body at this point in their life - but that is not who they are.
Similarly, ego seeks to reinforce its image through your material form, while spirit does not define itself through labels - it is eternal and formless. As you appreciate that you are comprised of the material and non-material self, your body moves towards higher states of health, radiant energy, beauty and the vitality of life flowing through it.
Allow me to render a caveat at this point - it takes time and commitment to evolve into the person I am describing here. What is the hurry? The urgency to lose weight NOW is merely a marketing tactic to deprive you of your hard earned dollars.
Nature does not subscribe to this ideal, nor should you. She is patient and endearing. Humans are the only mammals where the young have the longest developmental period - there is a reason and purpose to Nature's timing. Slow and steady are Nature's trademark - there is no haste or urgency to life.
In keeping with this line of thought, health is not an event, rather it is a PROCESS which evolves over time. There is no need to rush the process of life.
A person living in alignment with their authentic nature knows that any disturbance to their wellbeing is only transient. They have a universal view that life is an enduring process. They are not invested in their mental or emotional state, knowing that thoughts and emotions come and go like ocean tides. They witness their thoughts like waves crashing into the shoreline. They know that in time, these thoughts too shall pass - much like the changing seasons.
In presenting this piece I trust that you will come to value your health and wellbeing in a different light. I assure you, that as you connect with mind, body and spirit, your life will transform in numerous ways. You will look back with uncertainty and not understand why it took so long to achieve a blissful state of being.
Remember - patience and persistence will undoubtedly prosper in the long term. You should make it a priority from this moment forward to evolve into somebody worthy of living an authentic and captivating life.

Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome - Emotional and Physical Connections

Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome - Emotional and Physical Connections

By   |
It seems more of life's circumstances generate more stress responses in individuals these days. One can speculate the cause of theses stresses, but the end result is the effects that it takes on individuals or in larger concentrations; communities, countries and nations or the wide spread global influences.
But what is post- traumatic stress syndrome and how does it affect an individual?
Post traumatic stress come from the inability to cope from a witnessing or experiencing a terrifying event. The term seemed to be most prevalent in post war veterans but in the current world we face we don't have to be in times of war to feel the effects of PTSD. As violence and general unrest becomes more of a standard verses an exception, more individuals are being exposed to all kinds of stress such as motor vehicle accidents, public threats, sexual and physical crimes, global and environmental treats, victimization of civil liberties, social unrest and injustices, etc.
Some of the side effects of PTSD is the inability to cope, nightmares, night terrors, flashbacks, memories of the event, depression and a loss of interest in life, isolation and avoidance, depression, outburst of anger, feeling startled easily, difficult with memory and concentration, change in eating and sleeping habits.
What happens to the body when an individual has experienced something traumatic?
The body is designed to be an efficient machine. It has set within in a vast network of self-preservation mechanics. This network is the nervous system. Within this system is two main parts, the central nervous system (CNS) and the peripheral nervous system (PNS). The central nervous system contains the brain and the spinal cord, whereas the peripheral nervous system connects the CNS to the extremities (arms and legs) and the organs. The PNS serves as a communication relay between the brain and the extremities. The PNS is divided into the somatic nervous system (which creates voluntary movement) and the autonomic nervous system (which controls involuntary functions within the organ such as heart rate, digestion and respiration).Within the autonomic nervous system there is sympathetic nervous system:commonly referred to the "Fight of flight response". It allows the body to prepare itself to take on the impending stressor or engage the muscles to flee impending danger. Either way the body is aroused to prepare to engage in either response in order to cope with the impending situation. The other division of the PNS is the sympathetic nervous system ( CN), which is the recovery phase of the two divisions. It is referred to as 'rest and digest" or "feed and breed".
When a stress response occurs in the body it engages this system in order to generate action or rest dependent on what phase occurs within the nervous system. The body finds within these systems a state of homeostasis or balance. It can be thrown out of balance if it doesn't maintain this state of equilibrium, such as in the case of a repetitive insult to the nervous system which doesn't allow for the recovery phase to enter back into. Such terns as "burn out" or chronic fatigue" can occur. With post- traumatic stress syndrome a loop of memories can occur based on a trigger of a current observation, sight, sound, sensation etc. that transports the memory to the original traumatic incident. Even though the body's mechanics is engineered to perform at optimum homeostasis (a kind of check and balance in the body), it doesn't always mean that it does. Our primitive brains have long evolved to deal with on- going threats, be it that now, instead of having wild animals chase after us in the "fight or flight" response",it is grid-lock among other things. This shift of modern innovation has created a higher and more demanding pace of life for most of us. When we can't cope our bodies suffer the on-going loop of stress which plays into heavy consequences of our body, and thus our quality of lives. The over flowing repercussions of this can be endless; mental and physical health issues, social phobias, social disruptions of home and family life, disruptions of work and occupational productivity etc., allowing for loss of income for individuals and their employers. According to The World Health Organization (WHO) Global Burden of Disease Survey estimates that mental disease, including stress-related disorders, will be the second leading cause of disabilities by the year 2020. We need to rethink about the impact of what PTSD has on our lives and the degree in which it overflows into other aspects of our everyday.
What happens to the body when in the "fight or flight" mode? Our bodies, as implied, ready itself to take action whether by responding to defend our position of attack/assault or by taking the action to flee or escape the threat. In order to do either tactic the body needs to prepare itself in order to initiate this order. Chemicals are released such as adrenaline, noradrenaline and cortisol into the bloodstream. This creates a change in the body to respond by increasing our breath, distributing the blood flow from the less important digestion into muscles and the limbs. The eyes take in the threat by this reaction as dilation which allows focus and attention to the impending threat. Our body is now in a state of readiness. This takes place as a state of survival, without this impulse we would not have been able to survive as we know it. This is a primal state, a state of self -preservation that is built into our wiring. As in the state of preparedness, we also have the ability to calm ourselves and return to state of balance after the perceived or actual threat is gone. This allows for a natural state of coping taking place in the nervous system. With this affect in the body the muscles contract (tighten) ready to initiate movement.
What happens if the body stays in the "fight or flight" mode for a sustained time? As a part of the preparedness of "fight or flight" response hormones are released. If not used within the time needed and the body doesn't coming into a state of balance afterwards hormones can accumulate in the body. This build up can create disorders in the body such headaches, irritable bowel syndrome, inability to absorb food and poor sugar regulation, high blood pressure, depression, chronic fatigue and other auto immune disorders. We all know about the dangers of stress now we know the immunology and physiology around this statement.
The emotional component of PTSD is mentioned indirectly with the prior mentioned side effects, but how does the emotions influence the body? We answered that when we looked at the mechanism of the nervous system by explaining what happens when being engaged with the "fight or flight" response. But let's go a bit further with the idea of emotions and how they can have an impression on the physical body. The physical body creates a blue print from past and current emotions. Because of the creation of the nervous system we have the mechanism to function. It is in the chronic (long standing) and traumatic events that catapult us into a crisis mode in the body which cannot handle this. The body responds as the outward expression of these experiences. In basic anatomy and physiology muscle all have a function.
This function is expressed of dynamic movement. Impairment can take place not just on a physical level, but an emotional level as well. All muscles have within this blue print the memory of movement. This memory can sometime get lost in transit by injury, trauma or disease. But the memory is there. Muscles all have cell and nerve bundles that comprise part of the network of communication and mobility. These cells and nerves contain the memory. This memory can be emotional. If you kick an animal it remembers the trauma not just in the flinching of anticipation of the trauma once provoked but it also within the muscle. The stress factor is not just purely in the physical or just in the emotional; hence the coined term simply stated: "body mind connection". For, if memories are stored in the body, then it gives "body work" a whole new meaning of discovery. Once we tap into the physical body we are not just touching the physical abnormalities or disorders but something underlying deeper waiting to be extradited.
So now that one identifies what is PTSD and what its symptoms are and how it effects the body how does an individual recovery?
Receiving support whether professionally or from family, friends or a group, spiritual guidance etc., is a step in the right direction. All though it is difficult to overcome some biases one may have about asking for help or needing intervention, it is highly recommended. Support allows an individual to know they don't need to suffer in silence or shame. There are a number of organizations and professional specifically able to handling persons suffering with PTSD.
Getting back to a routine is helpful as well as staying physically active as well as the suggestion of getting back into nature.
Know this is something that happen to you but it doesn't have to identify who you are.

Fighting Depression - Make It Go Away

Fighting Depression - Make It Go Away

By   |
Depression-go away.
You were not created to live depressed and defeated. You should be living a positively victorious life! Be strong, be happy. It's much more conducive to a healthy and rewarding life.
Recognize the problem of depression. Analyze the triggers-what makes you more depressed. Utilize the tips and suggestions available and take some steps to a happier you.
Remember what is important in your life, such as your family and friends. Those are the things that you would miss the most should they not be around. Cherish the time you have with them. They can lift you up out of the depressing hole you sometimes feel you are in. When you get that defeated, down-in-the-dumps feeling-- call someone who will perk you up.
Go have a coffee and a donut or go to the park and just sit on a bench. Do something that is relaxing and refreshing. Don't let the blahs rule you. You really need to keep things in perspective. Deal with issues as they arise, and then let them go. Don't carry burdens around forever.
Some issues can't be solved, they must be accepted. Do so and carry on with positive thoughts and actions, and you will feel better for it. It's not whether the glass is half full or half empty. It's usually how long you hold on to it. That's what makes it a heavy load if you never put it down. Get rid of troubles and worries as quickly as you can.
Be determined to stand tall and rise above the conflicts that come your way. Sometimes you may need to be the bigger person and just walk away. That may take more work than fighting the cause. Think about what the end result will be, and will it have been worth it. Smile and drop it if you can.
Do things that make you feel good. Whether it's a hobby, social time, or family time. If it makes you happy, do more of it.
Try something new and exciting. Don't get stuck in the same old rut every day. You may just find that you enjoy a new hobby or activity.
Plan a quiet walk through the woods. Take a camera, binoculars and a bottle of water with you for a fully enjoyable excursion. Enjoy the peace and reflect on the things you want for yourself.
Tour your town as if you were a tourist. Check out some stores you never have before or just window shop. Say hello and smile at people along the way.
Gardening for 30 minutes can significantly drop your stress level and boost your mood. It is nice to look at and it is a soothingly relaxing way to spend some time with yourself. It can also be rewarding to see the growth the garden makes. Knowing you did this yourself can boost your confidence and encourage you to do other things as well.
There are many ways to pull yourself out of depressing thoughts and feelings. Don't feel defeated, feel strong. Take control of your life and become the person you want to be.
